How could it be otherwise considering the current market, Volvo's next electric car will be an SUV. More specifically, an electric B-SUV, smaller than the Volvo 40 Series , which will have as direct rivals the Peugeot e-2008 and Opel Mokka-e, but also others such as the Hyundai Kona or the DS 3 Crossback E- Tense.
The logic of this decision is very simple: it is the most demanded bodywork on the market today, and the small models are increasingly gaining greater market share. According to Volvo boss Håkan Samuelsson, they need "fewer saloon and estate variants" and more SUV models instead. This is where Volvo will expand to cover yet another segment, offering an electric alternative at a more affordable price than the XC40 and C40 Recharge.
At the moment we do not know if it will use the name XC20 Recharge or XC30 Recharge. Nor has it been announced whether it will use a "coupe" SUV-type body, with a more sporty profile, in which case it would take the hypothetical name of C20 or C30 Recharge, similar to what it has done with the new Volvo C40 Recharge .
